Global Nonviolent Film Festival starts tomorrow and opens with the world premiere of the feature film “Abyss In”, the directorial debut of Yannis Aivazis, starring Stavros Parcharidis

Ten world premieres are among the 38 films from 19 countries selected to compete at this year’s festival.

This is the 11th edition of the most important and renown nonviolent film festival in the world that was founded in 2012 by film director Bruno Pischiutta and producer Daria Trifu.

The festival takes place from September 29 to October 9, and it is broadcast on-line at globalnonviolentfilmfestival.com. 

The program offers 38 full-length films, documentaries, animation and experimental movies, and music videos that will all go live on Thursday and stream during the festival on a pay-per-view basis. There will also be free content available such as the Daily Video Presentations (11 in total) and the Awards Video Presentation, in addition to the films’ trailers. For the viewers who wish to follow the entire festival, there are VIP Passes available to purchase directly from the channel at the price of $100 each; one pass offers 7-day access to all the content. Viewers may also opt to pay-per-view for the titles that interest them most.

Festival director Daria Trifu promises “great entertainment provided by inspiring stories that are told on film by exceptional talent in a kaleidoscope of cultures and nationalities.” Speaking of the festival’s mission, she quotes Greek teacher and film buff Athina Aigli who had this to say, “Global Nonviolent Film Festival allows us to take a look at what make this world beautiful and interesting, what enriches people’s relationships, and what motivates us to look deep within. It challenges all of us to focus on everything that is non-violence related.”

In a recent article published by the Greek media, Daria Trifu said that she was “proud that this year our festival opens with Abyss In. This film shows us the dramatic conclusion of a love story that cannot overcome the mental illness and the progressive suffering that separation, isolation and divorce bring to a middle-age man. Yannis Aivazis starts his film directing career brilliantly, and his work rightfully demands our attention.” 

When asked for his thoughts about the Greek film, Bruno Pischiutta had this to say, “many things struck me in this film. For a start, the timing and pace of the direction and acting are perfect; nothing is superfluous, nothing is redundant. Yannis makes some amazing directorial choices for a first-time director, and does not fall into any of the many traps in which even the best first-time directors often fall into. There is not a single wrong camera movement, and the ensemble Yannis has created is remarkable. The actors are all good and carefully chosen. Bravo to Stavros Parcharidis whose performance is outstanding, and to Christine Konstantinidou in the part of Anna! The sets designed and furnished by Maria Korinthiou fit perfectly with the story, which is constantly emphasized by Yorgos Vasiliadis’ cinematography that stops at the essentials. All the elements of the drama are offered to the viewer, but there is nothing more, there is only what needs to be there.”

Among the films premiering at the festival, there are the first-ever full-length documentary about the life of Mahatma Gandhi’s wife, and the directorial debut feature film of Greek movie star and TV personality Yannis Aivazis.

The Jury of the 11th Global Nonviolent Film Festival is Composed of Filmmakers from Five Countries

September 6, 2022 – Hollywood, California – The Global Nonviolent Film Festival announces who are the members of the jury at its 11th annual edition. Distinguished filmmakers from five countries make-up this year’s ensemble. In alphabetical order, the jury is composed of Kostadin Bonev, Bulgaria, William Espero, USA, Annette Muller, Germany, Claudia Noble-Areff, South Africa, and Camilla Roman, Norway.

Kostadin Bonev is a acritically acclaimed film auteur whose film, Warming Up Yesterday’s Lunch, was Bulgaria’s official submission to the Academy Awards® in 2002. He is the recipient of some of the most prestigious international awards, and several Bulgarian Film Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Film. Bonev is a multi-award winner at past editions of the Global Nonviolent Film Festival. Several of his films are in distribution with GlobalCinema.online.

William Espero is a former American State Senator from Hawaii, chairman of the Senate Housing Committee and of the Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs Committee. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of Global Film Studio. Espero is also the published author of the novel ‘Passion In Paradise’, the creator of the TV series Hawaii On Art Academy, and producer of the documentary Hi On Art, currently in distribution with GlobalCinema.online.

Annette Müller is a co-producer of the documentary The Cure, directed by Emmanuel Itier, and featuring Sharon Stone and Mark Wahlberg. She is the author and director of the documentary Hu Man – Healing Journey To Being Human, in distribution with GlobalCinema.online, for which she was voted Best Woman Director at the Lake City Film Festival. Muller is the founder of the hospital for energy healing Villa San Esprit and the École San Esprit – International School Of Healing Arts in Germany and Italy.

Claudia Noble-Areff is a multi-faceted filmmaker and Attorney at Law. She is a legal pioneer credited with facilitating housing to over 150,000 families in South Africa. Noble-Areff is the owner of the film studio Noble Pictures, and producer of a number of films that are in distribution with GlobalCinema.online, including two episodes of an animated series of stories adapted from the book ‘Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales’.

Camilla Roman is the writer and director of the award-winning film Waves (Best Director and Best Actress at the 10th Global Nonviolent Film Festival). She is an actress most known for her recurring role in the popular Norwegian series Coda KORK. Roman is an Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (London) and New York Film Academy (Universal Studios, Los Angeles) alumna. Her films are in distribution with GlobalCinema.online.

Global Nonviolent Film Festival Reveals 11th Edition Poster Featuring Hollywood Icons

March 23, 2022 – Hollywood, California – The Global Nonviolent Film Festival reveals the official poster for its eleventh annual edition, which takes place this year from September 29 to October 9.

The poster was designed and created by film producer and festival director Daria Trifu. It features icons of the silver screen such as Charlie Chaplin, Grace Kelly, James Stewart, Alfred Hitchcock, Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, Morgan Freeman, Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, and Bruno Pischiutta.

“I created this poster as a personal tribute to the people who inspire me and who are the reason I became a filmmaker”, says Daria Trifu. She continues, “a few days ago, I wanted to remind myself of the beauty, elegance and overall style of ‘old Hollywood’, the time when the influence of stars on the world and on ‘ordinary people’ was so powerful and all so inspiring. Grace Kelly’s sheer beauty and elegance transcends generations and resonates with women of all ages; Katharine Hepburn’s tenacious independence and vivacious personality helped her cultivate an on-screen persona that matched her public image; Audrey Hepburn’s innocence, kindness and angelic character are not a mirage of the silver screen but the essence of her lifelong commitment to humanitarian work and children’s rights advocacy; the complexity of Alfred Hitchcock’s camera movements and suspenseful shots is still unsurpassed today; while Charlie Chaplin’s creative genius is the backbone of an entire industry. I spent hours searching the web and a theme was slowly building in my mind: in today’s world, that is fueled by social media, the idol as it was once defined is rapidly fading away as the subject becomes the ‘ordinary people’, so the camera is on all of us.”

AWARDS 2021: Global Nonviolent Film Festival

October 4, 2021 — Hollywood, California — Global Nonviolent Film Festival, the most important and renown nonviolent film festival in the world, announced the Awards handed at its 10th edition.

The announcement was made by festival director Daria Trifu and festival artistic consultant Bruno Pischiutta in a video presentation that is available for viewing on the Festival’s streaming channel at:

Forty-four films from twenty-eight countries have competed at this year’s event. There were eleven premieres.

The Jury comprises (in alphabetical order): film maestro Shamil Aliyev from Azerbaijan; artist, animation director and university professor Joe Chang from Canada-China; producer Elio Dell’Unto from Canada; cinematographer and documentary producer Flynn Donovan from the USA, and member of the International Federation of Film Critics Hamed Soleimanzadeh from Iran.

The Jury resolved to award the following films:

Best Director (ex aequo):

Hunter Hopewell for SHELLFISH (USA); 

Kostadin Bonev for AWAY FROM SHORE (Bulgaria, Ukraine); 

Sohrab Khandelwal for QUE SERA SERA (India); 

Zsolt Pozsgai for DARKING WAY (Hungary).

Best Cinematography (ex aequo):

Konstantin Zankov & Orlin Ruevski for AWAY FROM SHORE (Bulgaria, Ukraine);

Claudia Kovaks for DARKING WAY (Hungary); 

Gudmundur Bjartmarsson & Johannes Jonsson for RISING MOON (Iceland); 

Daniel Pascal for REPENTANCE (France).

Best Screenplay (ex aequo):

Kazem Mollaie for THE BADGET (Iran); 

Zsolt Pozsgai for DARKING WAY (Hungary).

Best Actor:

Penko Gospodinov in AWAY FROM SHORE (Bulgaria, Ukraine).

Best Actress:

Pap Katalin as Charlotte in DARKING WAY (Hungary).

Best Music Score (ex aequo):

Gnassounou Koffi Chico for REPENTANCE (France); 

Nikolay Ivanov for AWAY FROM SHORE (Bulgaria, Ukraine).

Best Medical Subject:

The 2022 edition of the Global Nonviolent Film Festival will take place from September 29 to October 9. This will be the 11th annual edition of the Festival that was founded in 2012 by film director Bruno Pischiutta and producer Daria Trifu.
